About the Artist

Jewelry artisan Maureen Massey  has always loved the ocean—especially time spent walking the  Maine beaches  in search of those “by the sea jewels”  with her husband, Mike, and their wheaten terrier, Riley (and yes, he does have “The Life of Riley”).    The smell of the ocean air, the surf, the fog…..it’s all part of summers in Biddeford Pool, Maine.    Maureen often says “Biddeford Pool has to be the most beautiful place in the world…..and if it isn’t, so what!”   It really doesn’t get any better!

Maureen is an Art Clay Silver Certified Instructor who has taken various courses throughout Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts in both metalwork and precious metal clay.  She has been designing ocean inspired jewelry in her home studios in Maine and New Hampshire.   She has always loved collecting sea glass and has discovered that precious metal clay is the perfect medium to show off those beautiful  jewels!   Each design is handcrafted and truly unique—no two pieces of sea glass are ever the same!   MAINE BY THE SEA JEWELS incorporates Maine sea glass, as well as sea glass from Bermuda, St. Lucia, Puerto Rico and Costa Rica.  In addition, custom pieces can be made fromYOUR sea glass!

In addition to the Sea glass collection, many fine or pure silver (.999 silver) pieces with an ocean inspired theme are available.    The jewelry line is constantly changing, but never far from the ocean!

MAINE BY THE SEA JEWELS creations have been available throughout the Southern Maine Coast at many fine boutiques in York, Ogunquit, Kennebunkport, Wells,  Biddeford Pool and Saco, as well as several locations in New Hampshire.   In 2009 this website was created to make these fine jewelry pieces available everywhere!

A portion of MAINE BY THE SEA JEWELS' profit is donated to David’s House in Lebanon, New Hampshire.  David’s House is a home-away-from-home for parents of children being treated at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
